Green Gov

Nowadays the world faces significant ecological challenges. The negative impact of human activity on the environment, especially in e-government should be taken into account.

Three important observations:

  •  Information and Communication Technologies generate a significant amount of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).
  • Information and Communication Technologies consume a significant amount of energy.
  • The growth of equipments and their uses is particularly high.
  • Green IT or green computing fits into the general framework of sustainable development and planet protection.

Beyond the positive environmental impact of paperless exchanges between Administration, Citizens and Businesses, each project of the e-gov portfolio includes a Green IT component consisting in acting to reduce negative effects on the environment.

In particular:

  • Establish environmental ratings in the assessment of ICT government purchases.
  • Sensitize stakeholders to the economies of resource (paper, electricity, etc.).
  • Reduce costs of consumables such as paper and ink cartridges.
  • Implement a policy of recycling and reuse of waste materials (eg: Green IT program of “Maroc Numéric” cluster).
  • Preferentially select providers with a commitment to sustainable development.

In addition, within the framework of egov plan, the Steering Departement of the e-Government program carries out a reflection on ecological project tools box.
